Renée Baker: Nothing’s Gonna Stop You From Creating | SoundLives from NewMusicBox
"Spending an hour over Zoom chatting with Renée Baker about her more than two thousand musical compositions and perhaps almost as many paintings was inspirational as well as motivational. Especially during this time when the ability for anything we do to have a certain future seems somewhat precarious at best. But Renée does not let anything deter her and while her music is extremely wide ranging and gleefully embraces freedom of expression, her daily schedule is precise and meticulous." - Frank J. Oteri
In this episode of SoundLives from September 2021, NewMusicBox editor Frank J. Oteri interviews composer Renée Baker.

Kris Bowers: In Love With Accompaniment | SoundLives from NewMusicBox
Просмотров 49Месяц назад
"Kris Bowers is one of the humblest and most introverted composer/performers I have ever encountered. This is astonishing considering his accomplishments-winning the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition at 20, a daytime Emmy four years ago, and now one of the most in-demand composers for film and television, most recently scoring the Netflix sensation Bridgerton. And yet it all ...

God bless Ben, my father-in-law, who was one of the sweetest men I have ever met. I am so much richer for having him in my life. His life was both a musical quest and a spiritual quest. And he tried his very best to meld the two into one.

His Touch recording was big fun on headphones back in 1972. I was playing this stuff in an Army barracks in Fort Ord on a basic but decent Panasonic stereo.

Absolutely amazing. How lucky we are for their dedication. When I listen to this music I feel something that I don't get from almost any other music. You are all an inspiration, as is of course, Ben Johnston.

What Wuorinen says at the end contradicts, in a beautiful way, all of the elitism of his earlier comments. It is JUST music the same as anything else. I love his music just as much as I love rock... the major shortcoming among modernists like Wuorinen is in believing their music to be ABOVE the others. Once we recognize it as just one (quite valid!) musical statement among myriad others, we can learn to love the music without compromising ourselves for the future and without becoming cynical freaks. Wuorinen's music ROCKS if you can just view it in the opposite way to which he himself largely viewed it... the same can be said of the music of Boulez, Stockhausen, Schoenberg, Ruggles, etc.

Hello, How are you? I saw your RUclips channel and understand you are a very hardworking youtuber. Very nice video on your channel, I really enjoyed it. According to your channel, I noticed that you have good quality videos but the videos are not getting views and subscribers are not increasing. You need to optimise your channel and do video SEO to reach your target audience. Otherwise, if you upload videos to your channel throughout the year, none of your videos will get viral views. If your channel is optimised a little and if the videos are SEO then your channel will rank very fast and your channel will grow

It's really good to hear him talk about the period snd the hopes and exploration, the almost irrelevance of pitchrows in his music and the not absolutenecessity of the 2ndViennese school. Id like to hear him, read speak in different decades before this. Need to hear more of his vocal music and what texts he used. What is Meaningful and enduring, standards, exclusion. What he ends with is frightening. TiaLeon shows us how to keep cultural legacies, intelligence and folkculture alive in classical music. I dont know if Wuorinen's extremities are really so difficult but they are a narrow type of fun.Berio to me included almost everything and this was a great decision. Berio was perhaps less insulated in Academia.

Smash and grab style of cello playing. Upbeats horribly heavy and jabbed. How to massacre both the cello and the piece in one easy lesson. Poor cello, poor Bach, poor audience.
